In the second half of the 20th century, the population of Thessaloniki almost doubled and the demand for housing increased.
The polikatikia (apartment block) typology responded to this need leading to a gradual decrease of the size of apartments.
Public resident areas became the leading spaces and the objective was to find clever solutions for their proper planning.
